# Create a model
This section describes how to create a new model in **IGMAS+** using a "traditional" workflow using "vertical planes" (vertical sections).
Historically, the idea was to construct the model along seismic lines, which acted as constraints on the modelling.
This approach was used for a very long time until the transition to building the model using horizontal planes (flying carpets), such as Moho interface, intra-crustal layers, etc.
The "flying carpet" approach is described in the [Import horizons](import.md#import-horizons) section.

1. New Model: build a new model
2. Horizon Import: build a model by importing layer surfaces (horizons) - this way is explained in [Import horizons](import.md#import-horizons).

Set the origin (X, Y), the size (Width, Height) and the depth (Depth). Don’t forget to choose the units (m / km). Default is X,Y = 0,0; Width, Height = 10,10 and Depth = -5. Change the values according to your needs and click on ++"Next"++.
