Occupancy of garages in residential areas
A small garage belonging to a single family home is currently assigned a RES occupancy. While this might help in assigning a structural value to it which is similar to the house the garage belongs to, the downside is that we also assign population to the building. A possible solution could be assigning a specific occupancy tag for private garages and then not distributing population to buildings with this occupancy tag.
Also, private garages should not exceed a certain (to be defined) size. There is currently no such check implemented.

Regarding the check size of private garages, we can find some standard dimensions for a single garage, for instance: 3 x 6 meters with a minimum external width of 2.5 meters. But the number of cars for one private garage is hard to say. Unless we use a super big value as the threshold for this check.
Multiple questions here:
- Does the GEM Taxonomy include the garage in their assessment of average floorspace per building?
- Is the 70% that we use to go from bruto to netto floorpsace including the garage in the calculations?
If the answer to either one is yes, we don't have to care about tagging the garage with another tag.

For the second question: I think the 70% we use for net floor area should not include the garage.
One definition we can refer to: Net floor area means the gross floor area of a building or structure, minus elevator shafts, stairwells, floor area intended and designed for the parking of motor vehicles, interior balconies, and electrical and mechanical equipment rooms. “Net floor area” shall also exclude open interior pedestrian walkways, lobbies, plazas and interior balconies, such as those found in enclosed shopping malls, office and hotel lobbies and atrium buildings, which exceed minimum code requirements for hallways and passageways.
